Abstract

Since the second half of the nineteenth century, the photograph produced in high altitude mountain (mountaineering photography) gives rise to peculiar images that do not belong to the tradition of landscape painting. Mountaineering is similar to the art of performance, if we talk about physical and mental commitment. Therefore, photos taken during the ascent of a peak shows both conceptual and formal values.
